Awards which will be presented for 2009 - 2010:

The awards committee asks that the Stewards take the time to sincerely encourage their ETFO members to submit nominations in each of the categories.

This is our chance to recognize the dedication and excellence that are the hallmarks of our profession.

   
Bill Ritsma New Teacher Award  
The Bill Ritsma New Teacher Award is granted to a maximum of three new contract teachers and each shall receive $100 and a certificate. This award honours the memory of Bill Ritsma who passed away early in his career.   Click to download
 
Criteria  
nominees must be active ETFO members  
nominees must be in their first two years of teaching  
nominees must demonstrate high standards of personal and professional ethics  
nominees must make a significant contribution to the school through active involvement with staff and students  
 
Nominee Procedure
1.

Nominations must be made by members through the school's Union Steward.

 
2. Nomination forms must be returned no later than April 9, 2010.  
3. Nominations are processed by the local Awards Committee.  
4. Nominations should be accompanied by a description of the nominee's involvement in relevant school activities and projects, as well as letters of recommendation from various sources.   Back to top
 
 
Federation Role Model Award  
The Federation Role Model Award is granted to a maximum of two contract teachers and each shall receive $100 and a certificate.   Click to download
 
Criteria    
• nominees must have been outstanding role models at the local union level    
• nominees must have demonstrated high standards of personal and professional ethics    
• nominees must be enthusiastic advocates of the goals of ETFO    
 
Nominee Procedure    
1. Nominations must be made by members through their school's Union Steward.  
2. Nomination forms must be returned no later than April 9, 2010.  
3. Nominations are processed by the local Awards Committee.  
4. Nominations should be accompanied by a description of specific ETFO activities or projects and the role played by the nominee. An indication of the significance of these activities to the local should be outlined as well as letters of
recommendation, from various sources.

Honorary Life Membership Award    
The Honorary Life Membership Award is granted to retired members of ETFO or its predecessor federations. Each recipient shall be given an ETFO pin and a certificate.   Click to download
 
Criteria    
• nominees have retired from the teaching profession    
• nominees have given outstanding service to the federation/union    
• as decided upon by the Awards Committee in conjunction with the ETFO local Executive    
 
Nomination Procedure
1. Nominations may be made by members through their school's Union Steward.    
2. Nomination forms must be completed on the original application and be returned no later than April 9, 2010.    
3. Nominations are processed by the local Awards Committee.    
4. Nominations should be accompanied by a description of specific federation/union activities or projects and the role played by the nominee. Humanitarian Award

Local School Supporter of Education Award    
The Local School Supporter of Education Award is granted to a maximum of two recipients and each shall receive $100 and a certificate.   Click to download
 
Criteria    
• nominees are not members of ETFO    
• nominees are supporters of the Avon Maitland elementary school community    
• nominees show concern and devote time to their local elementary school    
• nominees work co-operatively with elementary professionals    
• nominees are devoted advocates of public education    
• nominees are respected community role models

1. Nominations must be made by members through the school's Union Steward.    
2. Nomination forms must be returned no later than April 9, 2010.    
3. Nominations are processed by the local Awards Committee.

Mentor/Leadership Award    
The Mentor/Leadership Award shall be granted to a maximum of two members and each shall receive $100 and a certificate.   Click to download
 
Criteria    
• nominees are active ETFO members    
• nominees must have provided outstanding mentorship/leadership in the school    
• nominees must have demonstrated initiative and influence in their school

3. Nominations are processed by the local Awards Committee.

Occasional Teacher Award    
The Occasional Teacher Award is granted to a maximum of two occasional teachers and each shall receive $100 and a certificate.   Click to download
 
Criteria    
• nominees must show concern for individual students and inspire learning    
• nominees must be able to work co-operatively with fellow professionals    
• nominees must be aware of current educational theories and best practices    
 
Nominee Procedure
1. Nominations must be made by members through the school's Union Steward.    
2. Nomination forms must be returned no later than April 9, 2010.    
3. Nominations are processed by the local Awards Committee.    
4. Nominations should be accompanied by examples of how the nominee meets the above criteria as well as letters of recommendation from various sources.   Back to top
 
 
Support Person of the Year Award    
The Support Person of the Year Award is granted to a maximum of five support persons and each shall receive $100 and a certificate. One award will be available to each of the five categories: bus driver, custodian, educational assistant, technical resource assistant and secretary.   Click to download
 
Criteria    
• nominees make a significant difference in the atmosphere, learning conditions and working conditions in the school setting    
• nominees express a concern for students and other staff members through various ways    
• nominees go above and beyond their job descriptions for the betterment of improved learning or working conditions    
• nominees exhibit a great deal of flexibility for the betterment of improved learning and working conditions

1. Nominations must be made by members through their school’s Union Steward.    
2. Nomination forms must be returned no later than April 9, 2010.    
3. Nominations are processed by the local Awards Committee.

Tod Riddell Special Education Award    
The Tod Riddell Special Education Award is granted to an ETFO member. The recipient shall receive $100 and a certificate.   Click to download
 
Criteria    
To reflect Tod's spirit, nominees must be an enthusiastic advocate for Special Education and support the goals of ETFO:    
  • To protect the collective bargaining rights of all members    
  • To defend publicly-funded education    
  • To serve the needs of the membership    
  • To provide for the PD of members    
  • To promote social justice in the areas of anti-poverty, nonviolence, and equity    
  • To support international assistance and co-operation    
  • To promote the care and protection of the environment    
  • To actively engage members in the Federation    
  • To promote and protect the health and safety of members    
     
• Nominees initiate and influence change in special education    
• Nominees provide mentorship with respect to special education issues

Sue Robins Arts Award    
The Sue Robins Arts Award is granted to an ETFO member. The recipient shall receive $100 and a certificate.   Click to download
 
Criteria    
• Nominees must be active ETFO members
• Nominees must instill a love for and enjoyment of the arts
• Nominees must foster the artistic development of students of varying abilities

3. Nominations are processed by the local Awards Committee.
